Our Collaborative History

The MRI Centers was born from a collaborative vision. It is a unique cooperative partnership between Memorial Hospital, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, MR Venture, Inc., and Rad Services, Inc. These founding partners recognized the importance of accessible and advanced MRI technology for the community. MR Venture, Inc., and Rad Services, Inc., are divisions of X-Ray Consultants and Radiology, Inc., respectively, the radiology groups that serve these hospitals. This interwoven history demonstrates a longstanding dedication to providing the best possible healthcare through joint endeavors.

The partnership's genesis dates back to 1985, a time when the State of Indiana mandated Certificates of Need (CON) for medical equipment exceeding $1 million in value. Obtaining a CON for an MRI scanner was a competitive process, limited to a single provider in our community. This regulatory landscape spurred the formation of The MRI Centers. Over the years, our partnership has evolved, driven by the increasing demand for MRI services.

Expanding to Meet Community Needs

Our journey began with the opening of our original location on Dugdale Drive in November 1986. Recognizing the need for convenient access, we strategically expanded our network. In 1990, as MRI technology advanced and demand surged, we established two additional centers: one within Memorial Hospital and another at the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. This growth allowed us to provide in-patient services within hospital settings, ensuring timely and efficient care. In 1997, we further extended our reach with the development of a fourth MRI Center at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth, catering to the growing needs of the surrounding communities.

This commitment to growth and expansion has continued, culminating in multiple locations throughout the region, allowing us to serve a broader patient population with comprehensive and exceptional MRI services.
